You generally don’t need to report rental income if you share common living areas with your tenant. Will I lose the principal residence exemption?

Comment on Common Property Management Challenges and Solutions for 2025 by Sussanna Stallone https://www.mipropertyportal.com/common-property-management-challenges-and-solutions/#comment-3578 Fri, 09 Jan 2026 05:51:40 +0000 https://www.mipropertyportal.com/?p=6567#comment-3578 This is an incredibly thorough look at the landscape for 2025. I think many of us in the industry feel like we’re constantly ‘putting out fires,’ so seeing these challenges laid out with actual solutions is really grounding.

I especially appreciated that you included stress and burnout as the biggest problem. It’s easy to talk about the ‘profitability vs. satisfaction’ balance or lease renewals, but if the manager is burnt out, the whole operation suffers. Your point about moving from reactive to proactive maintenance is such a huge part of solving that, it’s the difference between a midnight emergency call and a scheduled Tuesday afternoon repair. Building that reliable network of contractors truly is the ‘secret sauce’ to staying sane in this business!

Comment on Understanding Toronto Property Tax: Everything You Need to Know by James https://www.mipropertyportal.com/understanding-toronto-property-tax-everything-you-need-to-know/#comment-1819 Wed, 18 Dec 2024 06:07:06 +0000 https://www.mipropertyportal.com/?p=5141#comment-1819 Let me understand this MPAC does the property value assessment and then determines the average cost of a home in a municipal city then that number is given to the cities municipal government and the average cost of a home is determined by the number they were given by MPAC and when its time for property taxes the cities municipal government uses that number to tax the city so if MPAC says the average assessed value of a home is $800,000 the cities municipal government determines the tax rate off that number? Please email me I need to know the answer thank you
